My youngest daughter, Baby C had been complaining about using the colourful hair rubber band as the hair entangled easily while removing those rubber bands from her hair.  She had switched to black elastic band since.  However, another problem cropped up!  The elastic band gets misplace so easily!  A pack of 30pcs, are now left with only 5.  So, I decided to crochet patterns on the elastic band to create Scrunchies – therefore this beautiful Rainbow Scrunchie was made specially for her!  She was so thrilled to see the Rainbow Scrunchie and used it ever since.

Let me share the simple patterns below :

Simple Stitches used for Rainbow Scrunchie

This simple pattern uses some basic stitches as follows and suitable for beginners :

  1. Slip Knot
  2. Chain, ch
  3. Single Crochet, sc
  4. Slip Stitch,ss

 

Patterns for Rainbow Scrunchie as follows :

  1. Start with Slip knot.
  2. Single crochet all around the elastic band – as many stitch to cover the band.  The number of stitches must be in the multiple of 3.
  3. Slip Stitch to the first single crochet.
  4. Ch4, skip 2 stitches of single crochet on the elastic band, sc into 3rd front loop only. [We are going to crochet 2 lines of frills into the single crochet.  Therefore, we are going to first work on the front loop only, then followed by the back loop only.]
  5. Repeat till the end. This will create the beautiful frills.
  6. Ss into the first single crochet.
  7. Ch1, sc into the first loop
  8. Ch4, sc in next loop, repeat till the end and ss into the first single crochet.
  9. Repeat 2 more rows and weave off.
  10. Start on the first sc on the elastic and now working on the back loop only.
  11. Ch4, skip 2 stitches, ss into 3rd back loop stitch only.
  12. Repeat till the end of the row.
  13. Repeat Step 6-9 above.
  14. Done with the beautiful scrunchie!

 

This pattern can be used on any elastic band and they are simple and yet beautiful!
